A new injury :(

by Lisa on May 18, 2010 · 38 comments

I think it’s safe to say I have a new injury. I’ve been feeling the pain for about 3 weeks or more now and I was hoping it would go away, but it still hasn’t. So, I’m finally going to listen to my body and cut back on some exercise.

I haven’t seen a doctor and if the pain continues after a week or so of cutting back then I will. The pain is right on my sternum in the middle of chest. Sharp pains and it even hurts when I breathe in pretty deep. I think I may have pulled or strained a muscle/tendon/ligament in there. So, I’m cutting out upper body work for a week to see if that helps. Bummer. I love working upper body. But, gotta do what the body needs right??

I still managed to have a GREAT cardio workout yesterday and switched it up a little for more. It was a 20 minute HIIT workout–gotta love those. It went a little something like this…

That incline on 15 is REALLY tough. I also did some lower body moves…nothing too serious because even some of those make my chest feel a little funny. I did find a new cool move that I read about in Jackie Warner’s book. I have no idea how to explain it though, so I will have to take some pictures later to try to explain it to everyone.

Eats were GREAT yesterday. My body was CRAVING some seriously healthy foods since I spent the weekend eating junk at my dads.

Purple Monster

2 cups Spinach
1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 cup mixed berries
1 scoop BSN Banana Cream Pudding Protein Powder

Taco Salad
Extra Lean Ground Beef
Zuchinni
Chickpeas
Green Peppers
Onions
Spinach
Salsa

I took my own advice and made a big batch of taco seasoned extra lean beef on Sunday, so you might see this used in various ways throughout the week.

Pineapple Scramble

2 eggs, 1 white
Peppers
Onions
Tomatos
Pineapples and a little pineapple Juice
Slice of canadian bacon cut up

*with a side of ezekial toast*

There ya have it! My day of good eats! I also had some snacks thrown in there, but those are boring and not any fun to take pics of!

Random Question of the day: What was your favorite subject in school? I’d have to say mine was history. I still love reading historical fiction. Something so interesting about knowing the way the world was.

Ouch girl. Hope it’s nothing serious. My favorite subject was probably English. Which would explain why I ended up with a BA and MA in Professional and Technical Writing LOL

I’m sure the time off will help! I took a full week off exercise to let my tendonitis heal and it made a world of difference. It still bothers me here and there but nothing excruciating.

Oh no. I hope it’s nothing serious and will get better with the rest. :( Boo.

My fave subject was English and Creative Writing. I’m not a write by any means but I enjoyed those subjects so much. Down w/ math & science! ;)

Yikes! Hope you heal up soon :)
My fave subjects were always English and Art. I loved to read and was happy to read anything assigned to me. I actually would get in trouble at home for reading “too much” and no interacting with others lol! So, when I had a book to read for school it was my “excuse” to read.

sorry about your injury…that really sucks :( I can sympathise and am sending good healing vibes your way.

LOVE the look of that taco salad!

I loved English at school, though my teacher was a psycho. My history teacher was amazing though so that quickly became a favourite subject!

I have always loved studying world history but up until college I’d have to say that math was right up there. Who are your favorite historical fiction authors?

Rib injuries are horribly painful – take care of yourself! I didn’t take very good care of myself and I still have bad days even though mine happened over 6 months ago. Please, learn from my stupidity!

Um, that is an AWESOME idea to add pineapple to eggs! Going to try that.

That injury man…it’s doo doo. I’m sorry chica…I know you were complaining about it a couple of weeks ago. I actually wondered if you had a chance to figure it out or if it had gone away. I hope the rest gives you some relief.

I see you mentioned History in your post today. :) Like I said, you should definitely grab the book I told you about that I got H. (The 5000 Year Leap.)

LOVE your eats…I’m planning some fantastic scrambles coming up. Izzie told me one she did the other day: whites, shrimp (who woulda thunk!?), asparagus, and onion w/ salt and pepper.

Drool. Love you!

And it should come as no surprise my favorite subject was Spanish. My 2nd favorite was math though.

In high school I got to take Sociology one semester and Asian Studies the next; those were by far the best classes I took. I loved learning about people and society, which probably led me to study anthropology in college.

First of all, I love how you make purple monsters… They look less intense (a.k.a. gross) than the green ones and I think that they have inspired me to just try one of these healthy smoothies. :) Secondly, I’m so sorry to hear about your injury! That’s frustrating but hopefully the pain goes away soon!! As for my favorite subject in school, it was definitely English. It’s what my degree was in college as well.

What a weird place for an injury.. usually its limbs or joints.. But a sternum? huh.. Wonder what you did!! Either way i hope it gets better soon, especially since its been weeks!

Your taco salad looks delish!!

I dont know how you do the massive incline variation. It seems like it takes forever for our treadmills to change from super incline to flat.. I cant imagine adjusting speed AND incline!! Crazy girl!

It’s great that your listening to your body. I hope it heals itself up in a few days and isn’t serious.

My favorite subject in school was science. I like the clear cut answers and knowing the inner workings of things.

Misery loves company – I’ve hobbled over on my bum foot to say I feel for you!! :P Glad to hear you’re taking it easy, and I would definitely encourage seeing a doc. My mom always tells me that getting hurt is “God’s way of slowing me down.” I’m go-go-go all the time, and sometimes an injury is the only thing that will force me to relax. Enjoy it!
