Flashback Friday: Prom

by Lisa on June 18, 2010 · 0 comments

Before I get into the Flashback Friday, I wanted to just get in writing my new workout plan.

For the past two weeks or so, I’ve strictly been doing Insanity workouts. Those things ARE killer and really kick your butt.

But, I miss the gym. I miss lifting. And I can tell that if I do those workouts everyday, I’ll start to tire and get bored of them. So, a change is in order.

My new workout plan starting next week will be:

Monday: Full Body Workout
Tuesday: Insanity Workout (for cardio)
Wednesday: Full Body
Thursday: Insanity
Friday: Full body
Saturday: Insanity

I might do 10-15 minutes of cardio after lifting if I feel like it…if not, who cares. I’m excited about lifting again. It really is my true workout love.

Ok, onto Flashback.

I’m going to a party on Saturday night and it’s a “Prom Party.” So, you are supposed to wear an old prom dress or tux–either from a thrift store or one of your own.

Seeing as how I saved a majority of my dresses, I thought I’d just wear my own–if I still fit into them that is :) .

It was a BLAST trying them on. All of them fit except for the dress that I wore my Freshman year of high school for a Christmas Dance. One of the big things I noticed was that all of the dresses were a little tighter in the hips. It’s true, I’ve become a woman and my body has changed. Bring on the womanly hips baby! :)

So, in honor of Flashback Friday, I thought I’d do a post showing pics from way back when and then show you pics of me in the dresses now!

sophomore year of highschool

such a model I was :)

Me and my date, Matt

Funny story about Matt. I had the biggest crush on him and totally fell for him at church camp. When I got back from church camp, we had our first kiss. I remember it like it was yesterday, b/c at the time I thought it was the most romantic thing ever. Now, I just think it’s funny and corny.

We were taking a walk one night and decided to stop in a park and we laid down on the grass to look at the stars. We saw a shooting star and then he leaned over and kissed me and said “looks like sparks are flying tonight.” muahah. So funny.

Sadly, it didn’t work out btwn me and Matt. He now is a lawyer. Funny stuff.

This was my Christmas dance my Junior year.

Holy eye makeup Lisa

Sophmore year..this is a picture of all of us sophmores who got asked by upperclassmen...we thought we were the sh*t

Sadly, this was the only picture I could find from that night.

Onto Lisa in prom dresses 2010…

Pretty classic huh?

I think I’ll prob wear the silver one on Saturday night. It’s the most comfortable.

I see pictures of girls in high school now and they have the CUTEST dresses. Short little cute cocktail dresses that didn’t weigh a thousand pounds and probably didn’t cost as much as the stupid dresses I wore. Ah well, I had fun times in them.

What’s your best high school dance/prom memory?

I’m with ya! Lifting is my true love!

Those were the days….I still have all of my dresses from dances. Every so often I’ll try them on. My sophomore ring dance dress looked like something that Barbie would wear. I loved it! Sounds like a fun party idea. Hope you have a wonderful time! You look great in the dress!!

Oh I definitely thought I was awesome for getting to go to prom my sophomore year… lol. But I cringe at the thought of some of my dresses that I wore!

Now I kind of want to try them on next time I go home… ha!

What a fun post!! You look great in both the “then” and “now” pics!! :) Have lots of fun at your party!! I no longer have any of my prom dresses. I found out about a cool program here where you can donate your prom dress to help girls who can’t afford one.

Lisa, you look so great! That’s awesome that you still fit in the dresses and the only difference that I can see is gorgeous muscle.

My school was so small that we never really had dances or a prom but we were allowed to get all dressed up for our grad ceremony and banquet. Although I’ll probably never wear the banquet dress again ( a tight, silky purple thing), I will probably end up wearing my grad dress (silky black, cute, and classic). When I bought my dresses I wanted to get something that had a chance of being worn again.

Super fun post!!!! I love cheesy backgrounds!!! HA HA!! I’ve noticed how pretty prom dresses are now too.

I was so wild in HS I hardly remember any of the dances. ;-) Once a girlfriend and I wore these really tacky (we didn’t think so) matching dresses and shoes in different colors.

Seriously, that is the BEST party idea! Someday I just might steal it :) And you look fabulous in the dresses(then AND now)

Best prom memory was my senior prom. I went to a small school so it was a great last hurrah. I wore a yellow knee length dress that was so fun. Ahhhh memories.

You look so good! Better w/ age, I say! :) And holy back muscles! You rock that seksi back girlie.

I totally burst out laughing about the dumb rock dude.

My fave memory was from my senior prom. I had no date and went w/ a group of my best friends. It was so fun. And my mom made my prom dress. Awww.

I would pick the silver one as well!
My favourite memory was from my prom-equivalent (I went to a British school and they don’t ‘do’ prom), and my friend’s mum let her have a massive afterparty at her house. This woman wasn’t your average mum… she’s quite the partier! She was the one making sure no one went thirsty, and she was right up there dancing with all the rest of us! I had a blue strapless dress, but pretty much all of my other friends wore black which I thought was super boring!
Have a great time! :)

Those are some gorgeous prom dresses you got there girl!! LOVE the royal blue one…I had one the same color, it was my fave :)

Jennifer June 18, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I love the blue dress with the little bit of your sides showing. You are so right about the dresses that girls wear to prom now. Back in my day it was all about big ball gowns. But now girls are wearing short cocktail dresses or sleek long red carpet-like dresses. Times they are a changin.

Aww, fun post! Love the dresses. Not bad at all. I think I might cringe if I looked at some of my dresses. I didn’t wear a lot of makeup back then-if any. Have fun at the prom party this weekend!

That is so crazy tht you went to North! My (at the time) best friend and her brother went there as well. You look so cute in your dresses! I remember my senior year prom was the best because I went with my best friend because we didn’t have boyfriends at the time. It was so much better than the previous year when I went with my (ex)boyfriend.

Love the pictures!!

I never went to a single dance when I was in high school. I did go to my grad though (which I guess is the same as prom?) and I was so in love with my dress. It was a glittery navy blue, and strapless. I thought it was gorgeous, and my mom was happy because it was the cheapest dress in the store.

Im always surprised when I see the short dresses theyre wearing now. We were all about over the top ballgowns for our grad!!

first of all you still fit them perfectly. that’s awesome!! my fav prom memory was probably the garter thing. i was sooo embarrassed but it was still funny.

simplyshaka June 19, 2010 at 12:29 am

Wow you look so young in those pictures (not that you look old now, but you look like a baby! It’s a compliment really :) )

The best memory I have is my sorority formal back in college…..I had a gorgeous simple red dress with sequined spaghetti straps and my date wore a red suit to make. I thought he kinda looked like a King of Comedy personally but ended up wearing a black dress shirt with it and he looked sharp. That was 10 yrs ago and my sorority sisters still talk about Red Suit guy!

I like how you have integrated lifting with Insanity. It is very similar to mixing both P90X and Insanity. One of the knocks on Insanity is that it doesn’t build any muscle. People that are used to or enjoy lifting are usually putt off by this.

Have fun at your prom party tonight, very cool idea!

1) You rocked those dresses back in the day and 2) KUDOS to you for still fitting into that dress! :)

I wore a TWO PIECE coral green dress that showed my ENTIRE stomach AND back! WTF was I thinking?!?!?! LOL AND I had fake tan skin, clear Cinderella shoes, and fake nails…

HOT!!! LOL

Have a great weekend chica!!!

I know what you mean about the prom dresses these days, I don’t ever remember wearing anything as cute as they do now. And I certainly don’t think I’d fit into my high school dresses =)
I loved high school dances–the dressing up, the dinners out, the dancing, the high school crushes–I loved all of it!

I had super expensive dresses because I competed in pageants. I was able to convince my mom (who convinced my dad) that expensive dresses were completely reasonable since I was wearing them twice ;)

I was thinking the silver one was my fav before I even read that was the one you were choosing :) How was the party last night?! Your dresses are ALL beautiful! When I was in High School we wore the long ones like that too!! I always walk through Macy’s looking at the super cute little short prom dresses. Oh how styles change!

It really IS amazing how the prom dress styles have changed now though eh? Much easier to dance in, that’s for sure!
