Travel. Sometimes it’s a GREAT thing. Sometimes you dread it.
To be honest, I think I dread this trip more than anything. It’s a work trip. It’s just me..and it’s to Morgantown, West Virginia. I’ve heard the area is gorgeous though. The conference is at West Virginia University and my hotel is right near campus, so I do hope to get some quality jogging around campus. I love colleges…something about the atmosphere makes me smile from ear to ear.
We all know how difficult it can be to maintain your healthy eating habits while traveling. I tend to think that traveling should be a time to let loose a bit and enjoy yourself..but this trip will be pretty mundane and I will be challenging myself to learn to be healthy when I’m thrown in many different “unknown” situations to me. Plus, I’m honestly EXCITED to eat some things I don’t usually eat. You tend to get in eating routines at home, so being thrown out of that pattern can be good sometimes.
So, along the way I will be blogging about my eats and what exercise I manage to get in. Hopefully, I can give you ideas and tips along the way that you can use the next time you travel.
So, today will be a day full of traveling. I have TWO layovers so my time will be filled with airport food.
So, I’ve been researching some healthy tips for spending time in airports!
Tips on how to be healthy at airports:
- Avoid mega portions and high calorie beverages at airport restaurants and you will have avoided two major obstacles.
- There are plenty of healthy items at newstands! Look for peanuts, almonds, nuts, dried fruit, regular fruit.
- Sandwiches at delis CAN be healthy: look for whole grain, nice protein, and veggies and stay away from heavy sauces.
- Other good choices include: Slice of veggie/cheese pizza with a side salad, a burrito with beans and veggies and brown rice, or a smoothie.
- Don’t just sit waiting for your plane! If you’ve got some time to kill–walk around, get your exercise in, and people watch!
All that being said, I did my best to start my day off right.
I woke up early, kicked butt at my Move it in July Challenge and made it to the gym for a workout.
I don’t have time to put it into excel…but my workout consisted of:
Pulls Ups 3 x 10
Push Ups 3 X 20
Planks 3 x 75 seconds
Rear delt flyes 3 X 10
Hammer Curls 3 x 10
Tricep Dips 3 x 10
Lunges 3 x 20
Then, I followed it up with an ellipitcal workout.
I stayed on for 30 minutes…increasing the resistance by 1 every two minutes. It got pretty dang tough towards the end.
I followed it up with some great breakfast!
And now, here’s me. Ready to fly off!
See you all in Chicago!!

I love your travel attire! I dress the same way when traveling – as comfy as possible!
Hope you have a great trip!
love your tips! enjoy your trip – even if it is for work.
you look adorable in your in-flight-attire.
Safe travels, girl!
Have a safe trip. Hopefully it will be better than you anticipate. Just keep in mind the fun opportunities (like good eats).
Pack your healthy snacks in your carryon, just in case you don’t see anything at the airport, or you don’t have time to grab something healthy there. If you have layovers, take a stroll around the terminals if you can easily.
How long are you in WV, girl? I’m within an hour of WVU.
I think that sounds so fun! Tell me what you think about WV – there’s a company that wants me to move there, haha.
Good job getting up to workout before your flight! That’s awesome.

Those are great tips for staying healthy at the airport! I always try to remember to pack snacks ahead of time, but it’s good to be prepared when you’re in a hurry and don’t have anything on you. Have a great trip!
Have fun on your work trip!!! And your shoes are awesome, what kind are they?
I think they are Nike Lunarglides or something along those lines! I love them!
I have no eating healthy tips for the airport since I’ve only ever been on an airplane twice in my life. Eating healthy away from home can be hard sometimes though. I’m super anal about packing lots of snacks so I’m not tempted to grab something greasy.
Just ask how to get to the Caperton Trail. It’s the paved walking/biking trail that runs along the Monongahela River. Several access points/parking areas around campus.
I LOVE YOUR SHOES !! pink pink pink I am all about pink (my current pink runners are in my blog header with my dachshund)
