Flashback Friday: Boomer Sooner GO OU!!

by Lisa on September 3, 2010 · 0 comments

Many people commented that they like bloggers that write about what they are passionate about. Well, your wish is my command.

I am passionate about the University of Oklahoma. I live, breathe, and sweat OU Football. Nothing gets me high like the start of an OU Football game.

In honor of our first game tomorrow, I wanted to do a tribute to my memories with the Oklahoma Sooners.

I grew waking up on Saturday mornings to watch my Sooners! I had two older brothers and on those mornings, I was one of the guys.

I even remember my first OU football game. I was in elementary school and we were playing the Kansas State Wildcats. If you aren’t familiar, the K State Wildcats wear purple. Purple purple purple.

In elementary school, I went through a phase where I only wore this purple windsuit that I LOVED. I had no idea Kansas States team colors were purple. I get to the game decked out in the wrong colors just mortified. I was so mad at my parents for not telling me that I was wearing the other team’s colors. I sat in embarrassment the entire game.

Other than the time that a kid blew himself up with a bomb right outside of the stadium (which is a whole other post), that was my only bad experience at an OU football game.

When September rolls around, I live football. I know all the players by number. I read the OU Message Boards. I scream my lungs off at the games and piss all of the old people off because I am too rowdy. I love every minute of it.

Nothing gets me more excited than Oklahoma Football!!

GO SOONERS!

Who’s your team?! Does college football make ya go crazy like it does me?!

Haha, I was totally planning to post about the Sooners today too. Love this post! My first game was a K-State game too, but I got sick and we had to leave and my Mom was so pissed.

I can’t wait for the game tomorrow! BOOMER!

College football doesn’t make me go crazy — I like to watch, but it doesn’t get me going like it does for you!

I love this post though because my sister/bro in law/niece/nephew live in OK and my niece has a little Sooners shirt (she’s 3) and she looks so cute in it. :)

Hey girl!

I am SOOOOO excited for football season too! I went to Texas Tech University, so we’ll have to razz each other when we play our teams later in the season! (Sorry in advance for myRaiders CRUSHING you Sooners hehehe!)

Since I’m in PA and the Big 12 loyalties are extremely scarce, I’ve adopted my husband’s football team as my honorary fav football team here- Penn State! We’re actually going to the first game in Beaver Stadium tomorrow (which is the largest stadium in the country!) I CANNOT FLIPPIN’ WAIT!!! Those Nittany Lions are fierce! My hubby also eats/breathes/LIVES for PSU football (we even have a Penn State room in our house!) so this is going to be an exciting season!!!! YAY for the pig skin!!! :)

GO RED RAIDERS!

PS- I LOVE that pic of you with your “horns down” hand signal. I can’t STAND UT, even though I’m a Texan. SAW ‘EM OFF!!! :)

purple….GOLD….PURPLE….gold.
I’m all about the ECU Pirates!!!!! In fact, it’s Paint it Purple Friday – meaning every Friday before a home game, you wear purple!!!!

I’m not a football fan to be honest. I am quite lonely this time of year ;-) I had a dear friend go to OU and I’ve been there at that stadium. Though didn’t they remodel, probably been longer than I would like to remember….

Love all the cute pictures! I’m not a huge fan of college football but I do love the Eagles!

I love that you’re so passionate about it! I’m pretty passionate about my Red Sox. Embarassingly so!

I love your dark hair!

Reply

thebalancebroad September 3, 2010 at 9:15 am

I am so jealous you have a college team to be passionate about! I went to Indiana University…um…yeah. Pretty sure any group of 10 year old kids could beat our team. But I DO love the atmosphere of the games! I’m a huge NFL fan, and there is something about going to a football game. And, okay, tailgating is a huge part of that. :-)

I loved looking at your old pics. Whoa, you were a brunette!

Reply

Emma September 3, 2010 at 9:24 am

I love college ball too, I get so pumped months ahead.

I of course cheer for the best team EVER.

Texas Longhorns. HOOK EM’
Can’t wait to kick some Sooner butt this year again!!!

Oh Midget Keeper, what am I going to do with you? Do you ever go to the OU/Texas game??

How did Texas do? I saw they didnt win that convincingly against Rice, but neither did OU against their opponent.

Reply

Sonia @ Master of Her Romaine September 3, 2010 at 9:28 am

How fun! I was never big into football at Tech.. I just don’t enjoy the sport in general… But, there is something super fun about being at the games, wearing red and black (I know, I know), and tailgating!!

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Poor Tech, they aren’t going to be nearly as good since Leach isn’t there. He made them what they were!

And I’ve been to a Tech game before–I went last year!

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat September 3, 2010 at 9:46 am

Aww your photos are so cute! College/university football isn’t really as big of a deal up in Canada as it is in the US, but it still gets me excited (even though I totally don’t understand the game!) :)

I’m feeling a little sick :)

I bleed orange and can’t wait for the first University of Texas game. Another reason to love the fall.

Why do some of my favorite bloggers have to be Texas fans? Bleh. It’s a good thing I like you!

Do you ever go to OU/Texas?

Reply

Laurie September 3, 2010 at 9:52 am

You are too adorable! Ok I have a confession to make and please don’t hate me :) I work for the ut football team but I am completely neutral territory I promise! I root for both :) Did you have fun at the state fair? I grew up going every year and their corny dogs are the best!

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:06 pm

Another Texas fan! You guys are coming out of the woodworks on my blog! What do you for the team? I bet that job is a blast!

I do, I always have fun at the state fair. Its a great competive atmosphere with all the fans from both schools!

Reply

Beth September 3, 2010 at 10:00 am

You look so cute in all your OU gear!! I’m not a fan of any particular team bc my college didn’t have a team but I love watching football!

Reply

Kelly September 3, 2010 at 11:18 am

Loveeeeeee college football! My college (JMU) may not have been a big team, but we won the National Championships my sophmore year and it was so exciting. We almost beat Maryland in our first game last year, love it!

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:07 pm

By JMU, do you mean James Madison University? When I went to my conference this year, I met the girl who worked for JMU! it sounded like a very neat school!

Reply

Yup! It is by far my most favorite place on earth, best 4 years of my life!

Reply

As a new Texan, I guess I am a UT fan by default. Although I laughed at your photos clearly bashing the Longhorns.

I’ve never been big into college football, probably because I went to a college without one. I’m more of an NFL fan (GO Steelers!) and nothing beats the rush of a tailgate, a good game and cheering on with your fellow fans.

Happy football season!

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Another Texas fans! I swear, the UT fans are coming out of the woodworks after I posted pictures bashing them! haha :) .

I have alywas liked the Steelers as well!

I love that you’re so into OU football. We’re hockey peeps up here in Catamount Country! (UVM)

That purple windsuit story is too funny. Something like that would happen to me!

bahaha long horns have little weiners. wow what a t-shirt huh! lol
btw it took me awhile to realize that it wasent a real cheerleading photo.. i actually thought that was you until i noticed the cut out head when i looked closer. could have fooled me cuz it looks like ur body for real.

XOXO

I can’t tell you how many people thought that was me as a cheerleader! Nope, never a cheerleader–although I would have loved it!

Reply

Katie September 3, 2010 at 1:01 pm

I love this! I’m actually kind of jealous, because I’ve always WANTED to love football, but it just doesn’t thrill me. I want to be the girl screaming and getting excited, but I juts can’t get into it. In college, I loved football games (I went to University of Colorado…go buffs!) but after that, my passion kind of dwindled.

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:09 pm

I never realized you went to CU. Im so jealous! I went to a CU/OU football game a few years ago and fell in love. What a pretty place! you are a lucky girl!

Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) September 3, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I totally thought that was you in a cheer uniform and I was like, wait, did you cheer for them?!

Anyways, I can 100% relate to the passion you feel for your team! I, of course, am a die-hard Georgia Football fan, but since we don’t play each other, I’ll be happy to throw a little cheering your way for the Sooners :)

YAY COLLEGE FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

Football just isnt as big here, but I do love going to games. I got into it because a bunch of the players were customers, and I thought I should at least be able to say “good game last night” when they came in. It took me a looong time to understand the game, but once you do, it is fun to watch.

I LOVE all the pictures btw!

ugh. for an hour last night marshall tried to explain football to me. i am a smart girl.. but football, i just can’t get into. i WANT to get into it, only because he is a die hard football guy and i want to enjoy things with him.. but i just can’t do it!

ANYWAY. not that that had anything to do with your post! i LOVE the flashback photos, and i love you and your passionate ramblings :) and NICE ABS in the cheerleader uniform. that deserves a comment for sure :)

Bahahaha, love the cheerleader picture! It makes me miss my college cheerleading days. I much preferred cheering football games over basketball games.

I wish that I could say BC games were even close to the same level of excitement as OU, but no, not quite the same. At least I got to travel to some other schools where football is a really BIG deal. So much fun! I love tailgating, cheering, 1st downs, and touch downs. Football season is the best!

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 8:13 pm

BC is no slouch in football! They have had some good years! I love looking at your pictures of you cheering in college–what an experience!

I love football! It is my favorite sport to watch and I am the only one of my dad’s three daughters that is really into it, so it’s our bonding activity for sure. :) I am not that into college football though, much prefer the NFL and I love the Denver Broncos! My grandparents have had season tickets for over thirty years that have been passed down so I get to go to at least one game a season (since we have to share them between many cousins) and I love it.

Reply

Reply

Tina September 3, 2010 at 5:39 pm

And at first I didn’t realize that cheerleader picture was one of those face cut out things. I was like “when did Lisa cheer? she’s a gymnast!” LOL

I had to go back and look at the cheerleading picture twice. First thought, why didn’t she say she was a cheerleader in the post. (I know you did gymnastics so totally plausible.) Second, thought was wow that’s a bold outfit to wear to a game! Go Lisa! Then I realized it was one of those wood things.

Yes, like heather (wtb), too am lonely and dorky this time of year…I hibernate in my car and listen to npr or give in to my netflix and the couch. I wish I could get into it…but I’ so not a sports anything person. I mean, I only watched the world cup for the eye candy and footballers are always in masks and those awful outfits, so eye candy is a little outta site.

Liz @ LBBakes September 4, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I love this! Whenever someone asks me what sports I’m into, I usually respond with ‘college sports.’ Being from Central NY, I am a lifelong Syracuse Orange fan. But we usually suck at football (‘cept when we had Donovan McNabb). So for me, its basketball season that really gets me going. But, nonetheless, I LOVE watching any college football game. It’s so much more exciting to me than professional football. I think it’s because you can tell the athletes are really laying their hearts out there. Now I’m going to be rooting for OU because of you! :)

Reply

lisaou11 September 6, 2010 at 7:59 pm

Syracuse are the Orangemen right?! Im pretty sure Syracuse played OU in the early 2000′s or late 90′s and I was there! Great game because Im pretty sure McNabb was playing at the time!!
