Flashback Friday: Halloween

by Lisa on October 29, 2010 · 41 comments

Truth be told, Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I don’t LOVE dressing up. Honestly, it sort of stresses me out. I don’t like trying to find a costume I like. There’s always too many choices and they are all too dang expensive. But, this year, I’ve been much more laid back about it and will be wearing two costumes—a recycled super fun creative idea for a costume and a semi-sexy cop :) .

However, I did love trick or treating when I was little. It’s a shame that kids don’t really get to trick or treat the way we used to. It seems like nobody goes house to house anymore.

My most memorable Halloween was when I was little. I’m not sure what I was dressed as, but I went up to a door and a woman dressed up as the witch from Snow White answered the door. She cackled, offered me an apple and I screamed and ran away. My mom forced me to go back up to the door and get candy. I’m pretty sure the woman felt horrible!

So, here are some of the costumes I found pictures of over the years.

My first Halloween

Not sure what I am…definitely don’t look too happy to be in it though :)

Minnie Mouse. Wish this was a better picture!

Blue M & M

What were some of your favorite Halloween costumes? I’ve also been a Southern Belle. I think my FAVORITE costume was my costume from Freshman year of college. I was a magic 8 ball. I wore all black and put a big 8 in a circle on my chest. I printed out typical magical 8 ball responses like “my sources say no” or “signs point to yes” and cut them into little pieces and put them in a baggie that I pinned behind my 8. I’d have people come up to me, ask me a question, and then shake me and I’d pull out an answer for them. I can’t tell you how many guys asked “Am I going to laid tonight?” No matter what I pulled out, I’d always say NO :) . Stupid boys.I wish I had a picture of that costume, but I guess I never took one!  I will probably do that costume again this year.

That’s hilarious re: the magic 8 ball!

My fave is definitely the M&M. Is that your little sister? She looks so adorable – I bet she loves you sharing that picture now!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by! :)

She wasn’t my little sister—I was a gymnast then and that was my coach’s daughter–however, I treated her like she was my little sister! :)

OH you were just too cute. I feel the same way about Halloween. Dressing up always stresses me out… bigtime.

My favorite costumes had to be when my mom made me a mermaid costume (so cute!). But I also went as a “rock star” many years in a row, with this glittery pink wig.

my favorite costume as a kid was a bunny my mom made me… so cute.

favorite as an adult? one year I was Glenda the Good Witch, using a bridesmaid dress that was PERFECT… (ugh)

another year I was Mia Wallace (from Pulp Fiction) – I went to a party – halfway through the party I affixed a HUGE needle to the bustier I was wearing under the white shirt – like the needle sticking out of her chest – and splashed water on my face so my makeup was running … it was a fun TWO PART costume!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!

LOVE all the costumes!! I had a clown costume when I was little that was SO similar to yours its crazy.
I also remember being a red crayon one year. My brother was a blue one. Then the year after I was blue and he was red. Apparently my parents got cheap that year. :)

Love the Magic 8 ball costume idea!

I did Minnie as a kid too, I guess my fave was a Zoolander group one we did – I was Katinka.

This year I’m doing a school girl, not what I really want but it’s easy.

Halloween gets me excited because I know that Christmas is right around the corner:)

I like the second photo of you best! You look like Tom from Tom and Jerry!

I love your first costume – what a cutie!

As an “adult” (I use the term loosely) I really strongly dislike the holiday, mainly because I can’t stand how women just degrade themselves into super slutty versions of real life. However, growing up, my Mum made all my costumes. I think my favorite was Wendy from Peter Pan – blue ribbon in my hair and all!

Love the Eight Ball! Such a good idea.

Little Red Riding Hood was my favorite growing up. Ah, it was so much easier then. I don’t really dress up anymore because going to the shops stresses me out.

And I agree that they don’t trick-or-treat like we used to. I was so excited to pass out candy last year, and we barely had anyone come by. I was so sad!

Hahaha! That Magic 8 Ball is a grrrrrreat idea! And, you were so so so cute as a little girl!!

My favorite costume was when I dressed as Lara Croft. Man, I rocked that costume and loved having my “guns” in holsters on my thighs. One year I also went as Barbie and that was pretty fun, too:)

I love your costumes!

I really want to dress up for Halloween one year with Brad. It would be fun to have coordinating costumes. You and Sean look great together! :)

That magic 8 ball costume sounds so fun and easy! Great idea.

My favorite costume ever was a sexy Dorothy costume. It wasn’t super slutty though, more cute, and I wore it 2 years in a row (I was living in a different city the 2nd year).

You are so lucky to have so many great pictures of your costumes! The only year my parents took a picture of me dressed up was when I was two. They weren’t big camera people…

The year I was in Kindergarten I was a unicorn… that was probably my favorite! I was obsessed with the movie “The Last Unicorn”.

Have a great Halloween weekend!

Those are some great costumes! I like the vampire one best I think:) I’m going to be Lois Lane and my boyfriend is going to be Clark Kent this year. Super excited!

I used to love Halloween but now I kind of hate it. I loved having funny costumes and then when I would go out I felt “not sexy enough”. Kind of like Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls when she went as the zombie bride. Anyhow, I’ve found that it’s taken on new meaning now that I go out with my nephew. It’s SO fun for little kids!

Fun costumes!
It might sound lame but my favorite costume ever was the year I dressed up like Britney Spears and my best friend dressed up as k-fed. We went all out, she used mascara for facial hair and I had a full on baby belly . The best part was that we were studying abroad (in a country that does not celebrate halloween) at the time and had to walk about half a mile down a busy street in daylight to get to the party. It’s probably the funniest thing I’ve ever done.

You were such a cute little girl growing up! I love the tweety costume…I went through a phase when I was literally obsessed with tweety bird lol

My favorite costume was being Daphne from Scooby Doo in college…I made the costume myself so it was pretty cheap! I hate spending money on the packaged costumes, they can be so expensive sometimes!

The magic 8 ball is such a great idea – I love clever costumes like that. I also love the m&m…I was a green m&m one year:)

Not sure if I’ll be dressing up this year…my favorite costume was probably the year my husband and I went as matching lamps. We like to be inanimate objects:)

Lmao at your Magic 8 Ball ordeal. Skeezy guys aside, that sounds like an awesome costume idea. The couple costume is also cute, my BF is not keen on dressing up and wouldn’t allow such a thing. Pout.

The Magic 8 Ball costume is adorable! I know in the early 90′s, I just wanted to be a bunny with a wand. I’m not entirely sure as to what that says about my life, specifically. But, it was a marvelous time!

OMG. I’m so gonna have to break out my childhood Halloween photos….LOL I was a Crayon. And Raggedy Ann. And….a cat, and a Valley Girl.
My BFF Amy is trying to get me to go all out costume-y tonight which means either Elvira or something similarly trampy. Hmmmm. Not sure if I will feel that total flavor tonight LOL

I was Peter Pan my senior year of college – Peter Pan was my favorite movie growing up. So while all the other girls were decked out in typical.. college.. costumes, I was in a costume sewn by my mom! :)
