This may be the dorkiest Flashback Friday EVER, but I need some fun right now. My aunt passed away yesterday. She has been suffering for the past year and I know she is in a better place, but it is still hard. I will dedicate a whole post to it soon, as I have a few things I want to discuss about it. But, for now, I need something short and fun as my heart is a little heavy.
But, in honor of lighthearted Friday fun, I am going to discuss something VERY IMPORTANT.
My Little Ponies.
When I was young, I hated barbies. I hated dolls. I thought they were both dumb and the plastic gave me headaches. Yes, I was a high maintenance kid.
But, somehow, the My Little Pony plastic had nothing on me. I loved them. I’d carry them around with me. They played in the bathtub with me. I had stables for them and I’d say goodnight to them each night.
They had my heart. Well, so did Care Bears, but my affection for both was pretty equal. I loved watching the tv show and movies as well.
What was your favorite toy to play with when you were little?
Like I said, I loved My Little Ponies & Care Bears. I hated Barbies and dolls. I thought they were dumb and had no point.
I also loved Magic Nursery Dolls. Do you remember those?
You’d dip something in water to determine if your doll was a girl or boy. I fell hard line and sinker for this doll. I loved the element of surprise. I loved waiting to figure out if I had a girl or boy. But once I knew what the gender was, I grew bored and never played with the doll. I just wanted to find out the sex.
I also loved the dogs you could buy. Once you got home, you’d open up their stomach (held together by Velcro) to determine how many puppies the dog had. I was always pumped when the dog had six. I thought I hit the jackpot. But once again, I didn’t play with this dog.
I was loyal to My Little Ponies.
Don’t forget to enter my giveaway in honor of my 1 year blog birthday! I am giving away an original abstract painting, notecards and larabars, and the ENTIRE INSANITY WORKOUT SET!

OMG, My Little Ponies! I remember those! I didn’t have nearly as many as you did, but I had a few, plus the little plastic carry-all stable! I loved the way they smelled! I can still remember that HAHA! My parents got me a REAL pony (I know, I’m spoiled) when I was 8, so that replaced my love for the toys, but they were fun while they lasted.
I was just thinking the other day how I used to love Popples. Do you remember those? I had one little white one and was SO jealous of my friends who had the BIG one HA! Also, I never had a Magic Nursery doll, but I did have a Baby Ut-Oh and the thing peed all over me. I was not happy BAHAHA!
I also loved My Little Ponies — but I sure didn’t have as many as you! How hilarious!
I also had an American Girl doll when I was younger — I had Kirsten, my sister Leah has Felicity and my sister Myra had Addie. Plus a few of my friends had one and we’d spend hours dressing them up and doing their hair.
Omg What a fun post. I would say my little pony was definetly your favorite, followed by care bears, you also loved your skip it and jump rope. We didn’t have much, I would say that I really liked my hula hoop:)
So sorry to hear about your aunt, Lisa. You’re in my thoughts. **HUGS**
I too was a My Little Pony lover; however, your collection blows mine out of the water! I was pretty girly and loved Barbie and Cabbage Patch Kids. Pound Puppies were another favorite. Ah, the good ol’ days.
So sorry about your aunt – my heart goes out to you and your family.
I never got into my little ponies though I do remember the animals with the Velcro stomachs and babies. I had so many of those!
oh my gooossshhh- so cute
LOVE all of your adorable pictures!!
My favorite toy was definitely cabbage patch kids & pound puppies. Loved them both!
Hi Lisa,
This is my first time commenting on your blog. In my defense, I just stumbled across it not even a week ago.
But ever since I found it, I can’t stop reading it. I think you’d kind of one of the most awesome bloggers I’ve ever stumbled across.
First of all, I’m really sorry to hear about your aunt’s passing. I’ll keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Losing a loved one is a terrible heartbreak. I lost my dad last year and miss him terribly. I’ll never get over it, it’ll never stop hurting, but the hurt doesn’t take over my life anymore. It’s possible to smile and feel good and keep going, but miss your loved one at the same time. I didn’t think it was possible to do both at the same time before. But now I know you can.
Hugs!
Second of all, I am so in love with all 80s toys, even to this day, that it’s not even funny. I’m not kidding. I will be 30 next year and still have all sorts of 80s stuff in my room- Care Bears, Jem, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, My Little Ponies (my sister found a few of mine in the basement and gave them to me, and I still have the thermos from my elementary school My Little Pony lunchbox, no lie), Rainbow Brite, Pound Puppies, I even still have a Pillow Person. I totally own it!
I also loved Colorforms. 80s toys were the best!
My Little Ponies and Care Bears were my two big loves too. And Popples. Loved those weird things for some reason. Although I think I mainly threw them at my brother and sister. LOL
So sorry to hear about your aunt. Love you.
Hahahah that pic of you rolling on the ground with the ponies is AWESOME. I loved those things. And I wanted one of those nursery dolls soooooo bad. I loved my cabbage patch kids a lot. I would bring them with us everywhere and strap them into the seatbelt in the car. My favorite one was named Oswald.
By far my favorite were my glo worms…I had so many of them, and a turtle car to go with them. I played with those the most, although I did have quite the collection of My Little Ponies, pound puppies, popples, care bears, cabbage patch kids, and barbies too…but for some reason, the little plastic worms always won
Lisa, I am SO sorry to hear about your aunt….I’ll keep you and your family in my prayers right now.
I, too, LOVED My little Ponies.
I loved Cabbage patch kids, Care bears, Barbies…I was the typical girlie girl, I guess?!
I’m sorry to hear about your aunt
That is super impressive My Little Ponies collection!!!
I was into my pogo ball and Barbies.
haha YES! i loved those things too. i love dolls and playmobil!
So sorry to hear about your Aunt.
I LOVED My Little Ponies too! I like barbies okay but I was way more into MLPs, dolls and stuffed animals. I had a doll that peed and it was my favorite thing in life. I would change it’s diaper like 400 times a day, haha.
Oh my goodness! That is one collection! That was a blast from the past alright! I played with creepy crawlers for hours on end!!! haha
Lisa! That collection of Little Ponies is absolutely insane. It looks like the collection my sister and I had of lego, barbies and stuffed animals. Yeah, me and my sister were pretty diverse kids.
I’m sorry to hear about your aunt but you’re right, wherever she is, she’s in a better place. You’re in my thoughts. <3
haah omg you are the cutest lil girl everrr! your obsession with the ponies was mine with trolls and barbies! my mom, to this day has ALL of my barbies in the attic and thinks they are worth major money haha…oh and i also have all of my beenie babies and pogs
So sorry to hear about your aunt Lisa! I hope you are doing okay!
My Little Pony was my favorite thing in the world – but my parents didn’t have any extra money to buy them for me. Or so they said! I am still trying to recover.
omg look at that pony lineup !!! you are hilarious
I loved Lady Lovelylocks (sp?), Glo-Worms, Cricket, and Cabbage Patch Kids. I also had a few NKOTB “figurines” that I played with as well, hehe. Aw, the good ol’ days !
That is the cutest picture ever! I loved My Little Ponies, and Care Bears, and Cabbage Patch kids. I had a lot of little ponies, but not nearly as many as you. You are a true fan!!
So sorry to hear about your aunt, first of all, my condolences to you and your family!
I loved MLP too!! Also Pound Puppies, Ninja Turtles, Rainbow Brite, Cabbage Patch Kids, Barbies, and I dreamed of having an American Girl doll but my dad refused to shell out the $100+ for one (which I completely understand now!). Funny story about dolls & such: one Christmas, my older brother and I promised to tell each other what we were getting, and so he told me I was going to get this doll whose hair you could grow out (don’t know if you remember this one!) and cut or something like that. Well guess what? I didn’t get that!! He lied to me!$!# So when I opened my gift I was SO SAD that it wasn’t what I was expecting, and honestly I don’t even know what I got that year because the disappointment of not receiving my doll with growing hair
Now I can look back at it and laugh… and I’m also old enough to plot revenge against my brother
I loooved My Little Ponies! I can’t rival your collection, but I may be able to rival it with my stuffed animal collection! When I was little, I never played with dolls, just stuffed teddy bears and animals!
One of my life goals is to own my own horse.
I loved My Little Ponies! I remember one Christmas finding them and a horse stable hidden in the closet LOL!
Wow, that’s an extensive collection you had there. You look adorable in those photos.
I was much more of a typical girl and loved barbies and stuffed animals. I still have a ratty stuffed monkey that I had since I was 5
I had a huge My Little Pony collection too! Oh this bring backs so many memories.
I’m totally jealous of your collection. I only had one- and I had to beg for it! My mom decided I should be more of a Barbie kind of girl…
I love this Flashback Friday topic…I was really into the Cabbage Patch Kids, Pound Puppies and Barbies. Those were the days…
Sorry to hear the sad news.
I LOVED My Little Ponies! I even had the Cabbage Patch giant “Crimp ‘n’ Curl Pony.” Did you have that? It had the wires in the hair so you could style it! I had the brown and white one and my sister had the yellow and white one.
Those pix of you with your ponies are adorable!! I love it!
Sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope you and your family are doing well.
But I love this post. I also loved MLP and Care Bears! I also loved my Rainbow Brite and Strawberry Shorcake Dolls. And, I had 13 Cabbage Patch Dolls. 13. A little ridiculous, huh?
80′s toys were the best.
So sorry…wishing you lots of meaningful time with family.
Cute post…makes me wanna shout out: Polly Pocket forever!!! My Little Ponies are *almost* as cool.
So sorry to hear about your aunt
my best wishes to you and your family.
Glad you posted this though. We must be about the same age because I had ALL the same toys!! Although admittedly, my pony collection was not as vast as yours. I was a huge fan of the pregnant dogs and played with them for YEARS! haha.
Talk about taking a walk down memory lane! I totally LOVED My Little Ponies!! (And I remember those dogs that had puppies in their bellies. Ha, ha). As for the doll, I never had one. My cousin did, and I was jealous of her. lol.
I LOVED My little ponies. I had a my little pony castle. It was the bomb. My favorites were the little ones, and the ones that were like permanently sitting down – remember those? hehe Thanks for the great memories. On another note, i’m so sorry to hear about your aunt.
I’m sorry about your aunt.
That is a lot of ponies! I was partial to Pound Puppies, myself.
Littlest Pet Shop and Polly Pockets were a couple of my favorite toys!
AWWWW, so cute! I loved reading this. I was OBSESSED with them
(And I just started singing the song in my head. I think it’s impossible to sing without saying “from Matel” at the end, haha)
what a cute post! i had soooo many of the my little ponies that you have in those photos
i loved pound puppies! and quints. and American girl dolls. my sisters and i had an obsession that was seriously out of control. im embarrassed to admit how many dolls and outfits we must have accumulated!!
I am so sorry about your aunt
I never had little ponies!
So sorry to hear about your aunt. You and your family are in my thoughts.
Sooo soo sorry to hear about your aunt
Aaah!! Magic Nursery and Puppy Surprise?! MY FAVEEE!! I totally played with My Little Ponies, too and was absolutely obsessed with the movie! So glad you posted this
Oh man, this post totally takes me back! I loved My Little Ponies and had a whole slew of them, too! I remember giving mine baths all the time in the kitchen sink. Then my brother and I would battle MLP’s vs. G.I. Joe’s and I always made mine invincible against everything and it used to piss him off so bad bahahaha. Thanks for the flashback!
How cute are these pictures?! I loved “Littlest Pet Shop” and these things called Sylvanians. Ooh and Polly Pocket! Basically anything tiny that came with lotsss of accesories
I loved this! I had a couple of My Little Ponies but your collection is impressive!
I LOVED (ok, a part of me still does) Barbies. I still have all mine in a box in the garage. I also liked trolls (their jeweled bellybuttons!), cabbage patch kids, and oh! Polly Pockets– remember those?
Aww! That’s adorable! I loved baby dolls! Pretty simple but i was obsessed! Every year I’d get the newest one that was as close to real life! I’d push them around outside in the stroller! and I would get soo mad at my mom when she would pick one up as if it were a toy bc it was “my baby. aka “real!”. i would say to my mom “you did no hold me like that did you?” and she would feel bad and say sorry.lol
We had the same Ponies! Like you, I was obsessed with them but I also liked Pound Puppies (I was obsessed), Popples, Barbies, Polly Pockets, and Littlest Pet Shop. Awww, memories!
OMG OMG OMG. We are on the same wave in a way that kills me – My Little Ponies are like my favorite toy of all.time. The movies, the toys, the t.v. show…all of it.
Definitely also rocked the Magic Nursery and Puppy Surprise. What was with the 90′s craze for toys/animals that involved birthing?
I love My Little Ponies!! Is it just me, or do they not smell like baby lotion. My daughter thinks I am weird that I smell them all the time. Brings me back!
Lis….I didn’t catch this post until today….I’m so sorry to hear about your aunt.
You guys are all in my prayers. Let me know if you ever need to chat…about anything. I’m always here.
We missed our phone date now that I think of it. Ick.
I was a Barbie girl growing up, but Hannah and Maddie are both in love with My Little Pony.
