Does my life ever slow down!? No! That’s a good thing. Bring on the challenges and excitements. I’m living life baby.
Ok, that must be my “up at 3 am to study for a Microbiology test” delirium. I have a test this morning so I am now cramming (yes, cramming) for it…so, for this mornings post, please enjoy a guest post from the lovely Marlo.
I first “met” Marlo on a fitness forum (same forum where I met Julie, Tina, Becca, Mindy, Melissa, and Jaime). We immediately clicked and have since met twice in real life: once in New York City and once in Oklahoma where we enjoyed the great state fair of Oklahoma and an OU football game.
She’s an amazing girl so please enjoy her guest post on her newfound love: Crossfit.
Hi guys! My name is Marlo and I blog over at Life of a Pacific Northwest Girl and I’ve been friends with Lisa for a few years now. Like Becca at I Heart Eggs, we met on a fitness forum and through our love of eating well, and working out we developed a long distance friendship.
A little bit about me. I’ve been working out for about 6 yrs now; I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I recently moved out all on my own without roommates, have two amazing jobs and I’m living on cloud 9 with my life right now. When Lisa asked me to guest blog for her there was only one thing that came to mind that I wanted to share. Something that’s moved me in a way nothing else has. So here it goes…
It gives me bruises
It makes me cry
It makes my anxiety levels raise
Yet, I love it
It puts a smile on my face
It makes me feel strong
It makes me feel whole
The IT would be Crossfit.
I had heard bits and pieces about Crossfit over the last year and half but I didn’t experience it until June 21st, 2010. That was the day my life changed. I have no idea what it was, but life just clicked after that point. Being able to lift tractor tires, smile at bruises that were created from a rough workout and keep going when I literally want to cry and stamp my foot like a 3yr old and say “No! No more! I’m done” has made me feel superhuman.
Can’t
It’s no longer a word in my vocabulary. Be it my gym vocabulary or outside of the gym. Things that once paralyzed me with fear I want to tackle head on and defeat. And I know I can!
So what is Crossfit? For those of you who have never even heard of it, the gist of it is “functional movements”, as fast as you can. And when I say, as fast as you can, I mean it. These workouts are not for the mentally weak. You push yourself past all boundaries that you’ve placed on yourself. Think you’re going to puke? Keep going. Seeing spots? Connect them and push through. When you are finished you will feel exhausted and most likely fall to the ground gasping for air. Give it 5 minutes of recovery and you will feel like you just conquered the world.
I am continuing to grow into a better version of me every single day. I cannot imagine my life without it. It’s that missing piece I’ve been waiting for. It’s something I’m so crazy in love with that I feel the need to share it with anyone that will listen (cable guy that came to my house last week included.)
I know what you are thinking.. “Sounds great but you’ve been working out consistently for 6yrs now. I couldn’t do that.” Well you’re wrong. People of all athletic abilities can Crossfit. At my gym now we have people of all shapes, sizes, and athletic backgrounds. I challenge you to do some research, find a local crossfit gym and stop in. See the family environment, the motivation the love the people have for this sport. Give it a try! In the end it might not be for you, but I bet you will have the best work out of your life.
You can find more information at Crossfit.com. For workouts and demos check out this link http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html.
Thanks Marlo! Here’s some questions from moi…
Have you ever tried Crossfit? What do you think?
What’s your newest found love in the exercise world?

I’ve heard so much about crossfit—-the hints keep comin’ so I may just have to try it
I “drank the kool-aid” as my Box likes to say on Nov. 15, 2010 and just like you, Marlo, my life has never been the same. I was a runner leading up to my first time at CrossFit and while I liked the challenge enough, I never felt completely at home with it. When I did my baseline test, I seriously thought I was going to tip over, black out and/or pass out. Two days later I signed up for eight months. I LOVE doing things I never even knew could push me. I love pushing myself and feeling like a badass. Most of all, though? I love when I’m not at CF, and going through my daily routine when I put my hand on my hip or my back and I FEEL the difference it’s made. It’s so amazing – even though it looks like crazy town to an outsider. Would never want to be without it – thanks for sharing your story!!

What fitness forumn did you guys meet on? Are you still active on it?
I’ve never tried CF but I have an amazing friend who travels and competes in the CF games.
Hi! The Oxygen Magazine Fitness Forum. I still lurk from time to time, but never post.
I haven’t tried crossfit yet but i’ve heard it’s amazing and have friends who swear by it! I did recently try spin class though and think I may have found a new, fun workout for me! Congrats on finding crossfit for you – so awesome that it gives you such positive feelings and such an awesome workout!

Hooray for another CrossFit fan! I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 2 years now and I can tell you that you will not find a more difficult workout out there! Each time I finish a workout I say “never again” and then find myself suddenly standing in line ready for the next class. Thanks for spreading the word and keep up the good work!
Never tried crossfit but I start fitness boot camp tonight. Nervous and excited, hopefully I’ll love it as much as Marlo loves crossfit!

I’ve still never tried CrossFit! I want to after all the hype I’ve heard about it, though.
I did just discover the “STRIVE” circuit at my sister’s gym, and it was fun trying something new other than my typical Power Cut class or my own lifting regimen.
