It’s been a busy day. Honestly, I’m not sure how some bloggers find the time to recap much of what goes on in their lives. I’m a bit jealous actually.
I’ve been to church, spent some time with my family, spent the afternoon helping a friend, and then dinner with another friend.
Now it’s time to talk about some muddy action.
What is the Warrior Dash?
To put that in less dramatic terms, it’s essentially a 5k run that has many obstacles throughout the course. Obstacles like a wall climb, cargo nets, jumping hay barrels, running through tires, swimming, wading through water, jumping over fire, and getting muddy and crawling under barbed wire in the mudpit.
Essentially, it’s a free for all.
Quick note because I know people are going to ask questions: Me and Sean signed up for the Warrior Dash long before we had broken up. I toyed all week with whether or not I should go to the Warrior Dash. I had three options: go on my own (not as much fun and much more money..it’s an expensive drive to Dallas), not go at all, or go with Sean and his sister (which saves me money). I had paid for it and really wanted to go. It was in Dallas, TX which is about a 3.5 hour drive and really didn’t want to go alone. Sean and his sister still had plans on going, so I ended up going with them. This does not mean we are back together. I still am single and still wish to be single. Just wanted to throw that out there. But in the end, I did have fun. I wasn’t going to get a little potential awkwardness get in the way of an event I had wanted to do since late last year.
Overall, I thought the race was organized very well and everything went smoothly. Parking was at the Texas Motor Speedway and we hopped on a bus that took us to the race grounds.
It was only a short 10 minutes bus ride, but like every good blogger I managed to get a picture.
We picked up our packets (which included a bib, t-shirt, Warrior Hat, and a chip…which can be cashed in post race for a free beer).
We were in the 9:3o wave and honestly it was a little chilly at this point. I was not looking forward to getting wet and being cold.
Thankfully, my adrenaline was going so much that I didn’t even notice how cold the water was…and you can bet that getting in chest-deep water was our first obstacle.
The entire race was fun. I did not push myself to go fast or beat a certain time…I just wanted to have fun. I had a blast with the tires, stomping on old cars, climbing up walls, jumping over fire, and crawling in mud. Worth the entire $45 I spent to get in.
Was it a hard run? I didn’t think so. Was it mega challenging? Not really. Was it a lot of fun? YES. People were so laid back, goofy, and just looking to have a good time. You can’t go wrong with that.
The only knock I have on the race is the “warrior wash” afterwards. I expected there to be a lot of showers, etc to wash off. Nope. Just took big hoses. It was a free-for-all basically. Get up to the front and get hosed down as much as you could.
There was plenty of beer and turkey legs. Your first beer is free with your race chip, but after that you do have to pay. We were silly and forgot to bring cash so we enjoyed the band with no beer or turkey legs. Fail.
If you do do the warrior dash in the future, bring a lot of towels and most definitely a change of clothes to the racing grounds.
And don’t forget to donate your muddy shoes. It’s for a good cause.
This was just after two waves of runners had gone through. Imagine how big this pile would be after two full days of Warrior Dash. Insane.
I encourage everyone who likes a bit of a challenge and something different to do this race…just don’t be afraid to get dirty!

I’ve been hearing so much about these races in my running magazines, but I’m glad to finally get a recap from someone who’s really experienced one.
Sounds like you had a great time – what a fun way to spend a hot day!

That looks like an amazing time!!! Don’t worry, after the Husband and I took a break (when we were in college), we still ahd to be around each other sometimes and it was always a little weird. Glad that phase is long gone!

I love the story on you and your husband!
I would love to do one of these sometime — every race recap I have seen looks like a blast! Congrats on finishing!

I am insanely jealous! If I ever get the opportunity to, I will for sure!
I have experienced the same situation when my exboyfriend and I broke up, I went through periods where we could be friends and we had too see each other, although it was akward to periods that we couldnt look at each other.
I am glad you still went and enjoyed yourself!

This looks great and looks like you had tons of fun competing in the madness! These races are so awesome and I am looking forward to my next one on May 22!

Yay! I can’t wait to read about your warrior dash! (ps–got your email–THANK YOU–and I plan on responding soon!)
Looks like you had a blast. After seeing a few recaps of races like this I am glad to know about hose showers.
I love the donation of the muddy shoes since so many people will just chuck them anyway.

Yep! There was no way I was going to take the time to get those clean! I think it’s a GREAT idea.
Yeah, when I had blogs in the past I often wondered how people found the time to do posts every day. I would think it would be easier if you know that you have readers just waiting patiently for another, but I never had much in the way of readers (no matter how hard I tried!).
The warrior dash looks like so much fun!

I meant to comment on this when you said it earlier..but I love that you want to come to OKC for 105 degrees! Love the place (I’ve blogged about it once or twice)…and plan on going Wednesday!
Awesome day!!!!!
Wow looks like the Dash was a ton of fun and an event to brag about! You have me considering signing up for the MO race close to my birthday.

You need to! It’s so much more relaxed and fun than traditional races!
That looks like a lot of fun, Lisa! Not sure I’d ever do something like that – but I always admire people who take on those muddy races!
You don’t like to get dirty?!
I love that you did this! I worked all weekend, but would have loved to participate. Such a fun experience! I’m going to add this to my list of things to do.

Dorry,
i’m gonna be driving through Dallas in late May! Dinner or lunch maybe?! or at least a trip to lulemon (I’ve never been to a store!)
Wow that race looks awesome. I’ve never signed up for a run before but i’d be game for that one! I’m really impressed that you went despite the fact that your ex and his sis were there too. Maybe some unnecessary awkwardness but shows how confident you are about your decision and what you don’t want to have to compromise…like this race!

Thank you! I like the way you worded that. I am not one to hold grudges…it didn’t work out for us, but that’s no reason to let it affect my life NOW ya know?
That looks like a fun time! No need to explain why you were with Sean. Christian and I are still friends and plan to meet for lunch this week. It’s silly not to have that person in your life just because things ended. We’re all adults you know? Great job in the race!

Agreed. I just figured I’d get it all out in the open so people wouldn’t have to ask questions!
That looked like so much fun! I’m even more excited for my Ruckus now!
Awww, looks like so much fun! I’ve really gotta get on that registration for the one coming to NY. It’s in August…and now I want to do it even MORE after seeing your recap.

I want to do a Warrior Dash! Hubbs is signed up for one in August, but I don’t think I can do it being 9 months prego- boo. But next year!
Looks like you had a blast and I’m glad things weren’t too awkward with the boy. I love the muddy look- FUN!

This might be the ONLY time I would ever consider running a race again. You made it look like so much fun! Of course, you are a fun person as it is, so what else would I expect?

You look sooo cute in those pics. I gotta do a muddy race one of these days. Truthfully, it isn’t that appealing to me. I get so serious about these races. I feel like the mud would frustrate me! I gotta have a little more fun
I totally relate to you about finding the time to blog! Yesterday I was gone until 11:30 PM but I was so excited about the day that I wanted to get it all down on the blog. Now I’m mucho tired this Monday mornin!

OMG that looks like it was SUCH FUN, even if it ended up being with your “ex” and all. I’m so glad you went for it anyway! And now I totally want to try one of these warrior dashes to see what it feels like to run in the mud, how cool!

You definitely need to do it when you get a chance! I can see you loving it.

I wish every race could be fun like that!
We have something similar called the Mud Run. I haven’t done it but it is totally on my radar this year!! Way to remind me to sign up! So glad you got to enjoy this, looked like a blast.
