The heat is on.
It’s on the streets.
Inside your heart…
on every beat.
Ok, sorry, I got a little 80′s on ya.
The heat has hit Oklahoma. It got well into the 90′s this weekend. I made sure to spend time at the lake and outdoors at an Arts Festivals.
Sometimes the only thing that hits the spot is a cold drink to cool your body off.
Enter fun protein smoothies.
This was off the freakin charts. I stole the recipe from the Body for Life friendly cookbook—Eating for Life.
Let’s get right to it. No need to fart around. Here is what goes into this little piece of heaven.
Sparkling Orange Smoothie
12 oz diet soda
6 oz orange flavored yogurt (I used a light variety)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (whey, soy, whatever)
1/2 orange, peeled
6 ice cubes
Sure, it’s got some artificial stuff in it. Sometimes good taste wins all.
This is one of those times.
What’s your favorite smoothie/protein shake combination?
What’s one of your favorite 80′s song? Personally, I love some Lady in Red. Some Danger Zone….and about a million others!

Sounds good! Never heard of putting sparkling stuff into a smoothie–I bet it is really refreshing. My favorite combo is either chocolate banana or strawberry banana with vanilla protein powder.

Good lord! You know what this means? This means you need to get your butt to LA where it’s 72 all year long.
As for the nod to the 80s, I’m a fan of “99 luftballoons”. That cheesy German version, of course.

There are so many good 80s songs — I love “baby don’t hurt me” — no idea who sings it or what it is called, maybe “so this is love”? Either way that song is awesome.

Lately, I’ve been loving the Green Monsters. Usually just banana, vanilla yogurt, and spinach, but I think I need to try your recipe sometime!
Please, there is no way I can narrow down to a single fave 80′s song. Right now my running playlist has Footloose by Kenny Loggins, Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue, Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar, Here I Go Again by Whitesnake, etc…Yep, love me the 80′s music. If I can sing to it in the car, I am happy.

Hey Lisa!
I make a creamsicle smoothie using:
soy milk (or regular milk!)
vanilla flavored protein powder
a couple spoonfuls of frozen orange juice concentrate
and ice!
It’s so good and pretty healthy! I’m going to have to try your version though…it sounds delicious!
Hmmm, now that sounds so refreshing!
