Another day another mud-run. Luckily, this wasn’t just any mud run. It was the first big mud-run in Oklahoma and was modeled after The Warrior Dash. Oklahoma knows how to do it, and I thought it was better, more fun, and more challenging than the mud run.
If I am being honest, which I always try to be, I was pretty worried about that race. Running has been the last thing on my mind. It’s been too dang hot (37 days of 100+ degree weather) and I knew the race would be a challenge.
Me and Sean had originally signed up and we had thought it was just going to be the two of us. We were in for a great surprise when my mom, my brother, and my nephew decided to join us in the fun.
Can I just say how cool that makes my mother? A 51 year old woman kicking butt in a 5k mud-run.
We head out in Sean’s 77′ Toyota Landcruiser. We ran into some mishaps early on when his water pump blew and we were stranded. In true Okie fashion, we stayed calm, had fun, and waited for his uncle to come and save the day.
We left early for the race (thank goodness), so we still made it with 30 minutes to spare.
We got our bags check as quick as we could and then posed for some pre-stank pictures.
Before the race, we decided that I would run with my mom. Times between a mother and daughter are very important and I wanted to enjoy every minute of it. Plus, it gave Sean the chance to go on and get 20th place in the whole race. He’s pretty much a rockstar.
My mom did great! She jogged for a lot of it and did amazing on the obstacles. She really enjoys lifting weights and excelled at the obstacles with climbing, ropes, etc.
The race as a whole was harder than the Warrior Dash. It could’ve been the heat, but the obstacles seemed more difficult. There was a lot more mud, a lot more running through deep water, and a lot more climbing 15ft walls with only rope. In other words, it rocked.
The last obstacle was probably 30 feet worth of crawling through a mud pit.
We came out of the race pretty dang dirty…just what we paid for!
It wouldn’t be fitting if we JUST got dirty….you’ve got to get down a little every once in a while as well.
My brother and nephew started 30 minutes later than us and soon finished quickly after..
The worst part of the day was simply baking in the sun waiting for an hour to shower and get as the mud dried and started cracking and hurting our skin. On a positive note, it was nature’s sunscreen.
The day ended with me getting back home and promptly laying the grass and wishing I could fall asleep.
Speaking of falling asleep…that’s exactly where I’m going.
I had such a great day with family and it wore me the heck out.
Tell me about a favorite race of yours!

I’ve been wanting to do a mud run but none of them have fit into my schedule! So far my favorite was a marathon relay I did in Jacksonville, FL because the crowd, a.k.a. the residents were awesome spectators!
I’ve always wanted to do a relay!
Man, that looks so fun! My husband and I wanted to run in the Dirty 30 but he injured his knee about a month ago so he couldn’t…and I didn’t want to do it alone.
Hopefully it will happen again next year. That is awesome your boyfriend finished 20th!
You should look into the Warrior Dash in Tulsa in September! I’ll be there…that means you all should definitely do it!
Looks like SO much fun! Love that you ran it with your mom — what an amazing thing to do together… She’s a rockstar!
Agreed. She’s MORE than a rockstar.
Your mom kicks ASS.
You look great and it looks like you had a blast!
So fun! And kudos to your mama! I did the Mudathlon this June with a big team of friends/fam, including my 50-something dad
Love doing fun things like that with my parents. But it was a great race. Hard! But awesome. And yes, they really need to do something about those shower lines. Horrible!
Looks like a blast!
What a fun race! I love all the pictures haha mud is natures sun screen
My favorite race is on Halloween… a costume race LOL!
Fun! That’s pretty awesome that you could do that with your mom!
Looks like everyone had a great time. Congrats to you and your family on an awesome race!
You look so happy! It makes my heart smile!
I haven’t done a mud run, but other friends of mine have and everyone seems to love it. My favorite races have been my last 2 half marathons. I always feel so great afterward!
That race looks intense!!! I would hate getting that dirty but it looks like you clearly had a great time. That’s so awesome, too, that you were able to run it with your family!
Getting dirty is the best part!
Mud or not – you guys are BEAUTIFUL people! Looks like so much fun
yes…mud included.
I wanted to ask if you would mind if I linked to your “I don’t want to be a Food Blogger” post and used some quotes from it in an upcoming post of mine?? I’ll link you of course and tell readers exactly where it’s coming from and to come here to check it out! There is just so much stuff there that really struck me and I want to share it
Hope it’s okay..?
Enjoy your Sunday!
of course I don’t mind! quote and link away!
I’m doing my first mud run (a 5 miler in October) and I am freaking out! I have so many questions… but my main one is the least important, really. Where did you keep your camera? haha I should probably be asking something other than that, but I can’t help it…
haha that’s an important question.
I kept it in my bag that that I checked in at the race site!
It was fun. The obstacles were my favorite and the running NOT. I am going to try to start running and learn how.
Good for you (and your mom and Sean)! It looks like you had a blast!
Oh man, that looks like so much fun! Love the pic of you and sean kissing with mud all over you! Adorable
ohhhh…that looks like a fun run!!!
I keep meaning to do the one at camp pendleton but always have something else going on!
Have a great afternoon, Lisa! And I love that you guys all did that together. I know how much that must have meant to you.
You need to do some mud runs! You’d love them! The obstacles are the best part!
That’s a really cute picture of you & your boyfriend <3 (the kissy one!).
That looks like so much fun! You and Sean are adorable.
Your mom is amazing – as are the rest of you – I can’t imagine doing a race like that!
She is pretty great, I’d have to agree.
so awesome! I love that you all did the race together. Billy doesn’t ever want to run another half marathon, but I think he’d be down for something like this. Also – I REALLY just love that you and Sean have come back together. It’s like you had to take that time apart to each grow individually and now you can be together in the healthiest, most beautiful way. I’m so happy for you!
Sean’s the same way–he has no interest in half marathons or longer races, but he loves these shorter mud runs.
HOW FUN!! Mud runs are the BEST , seriously. love that pic of yall kissing with the mud all over yall- youre still so beautiful even after all of that!
That looks like SO much fun!
This is something I have never done, but looks like SO much fun!
That looks like a great event! I really want to do a mud run, but I haven’t seen one around these parts yet.
I LOVE the muddy post-race shots!! Hot stuff!
Looks like you guys had tons of fun!! I love it! I want to do a race next year i think.. Its always way more fun to do it with a group of people!
You are flipping sexy and strong!
Great run – tell your mother that she ROCKS!
That looks like so much fun! I love the pictures- you guys look smokin’ hot! It’s awesome that you did that with your mom- I can’t even get mine to walk around the neighborhood with me.
I was so excited that my mom wanted to do the race with me! She made it that much better.
omg, this looks like SO MUCH FUN!!!
I wish Alaska would get it together and have fun mud races next year! They look like so much fun! Honestly, my favorite race was a small 10k here in Homer, AK a month or so ago. It was a week after my first ever half marathon and a great no stress race. I loved it! Of course, I love any race that is right by the ocean, with otters and eagles nearby.
ummm…I would love that race too! and great job on your first half! What a great accomplishment!
